Automatic Load-Pull Measurement

Esope is a software application dedicated for automatic load-pull measurements. Esope is intuitive and easy to use.

The Esope Standard Edition propose instrument GPIB control, configure devices, load-pull measurements, recording of data and displays. Optimum fine search, parameter sweep, load-pull and source-pull are the high level procedures available to make measurements.

Included is the compatibility with MAURY-Microwave HGT tuners, or High Gamma Tuners.

Also included is the compatibility with FOCUS-Microwaves tuners. CCMT, CCMT-2C, PMT, PHT and COMBO. ISA and PCI control cards from Focus are supported, also the Athena contol unit can drive the Focus microwaves tuners.

There are specific benefits you get by using ESOPE to control your Focus tuners:
 • tuning possibility increased for CCMT even with the use of transformers
 • tuning of PMTs as simple as tuning CCMTs - difference is just a wider tuning range

Esope Load-Pull

Tuning Control

ATHENA provides accurate interpolation algorithm in order to be able to tune anywhere on the Smith chart. There is no limitation to calibrated points or loss of accuracy when using impedance transformers.

Tuning to an impedance is as easy as clicking the mouse on the Smith chart. Automatic measurement pattern can be easily defined.

Esope displays the impedance position of the tuners in real time. Cursors are displayed on the Smith chart to indicate the impedance position at each frequency. The impedance path between the actual tuner position and the desired position is also shown. This gives ATHENA the unique feature of being able to avoid region of un-stability where oscillations occur. This is particularly important at high power, when oscillations can destroy the transistor. Intermediate positions in the forbidden area are avoided, making load-pull measurements safer.

Parameter Control

DC Bias Control: up to 8 bias supplies can be controlled simultaneously, allowing the biasing of 4 transistors.
RF parameters of the signal source with frequency and output power are controllable directly from ESOPE.

Esope handles the GPIB commands through a dedicated DLL. The instrument drivers are based on the National Instrument GPIB Card. Also most of common instrument are already supported within the DLL, ATHENA provides the source code of the DLL to give you the facility to make modifications at your convenience.

DC & RF Measurements

DC and RF measurements are provided for I/V characterization. Gain, Power, ACPR or IMD measurements are already integrated with full corrections of losses and de-embedding in DUT reference plane. Also user defined figure of merit can be calculated directly.

Measurement Procedures

Different types of measurement procedures have been implemented: parameter sweep, optimum fine search and fundamental & harmonic load-pull.

Data Viewing

Graphic Display for Load-Pull contour in 2D/3D is directly integrated into Esope. No third packages or external modules to use through many clicks. Rectangular grid display, Smith chart, polar chart are available, in 2D or 3D. Based on the powerfull OpenGL graphic library, it gives the best results on the screen.
